A California woman used the precious moments her youngest son slept to create a magical, fairy tale-inspired dream world.

Queenie Liao took clothes, fabrics, household items and toys to create scenes that sent little Wengenn, now 3 years old, on sleepy adventures as a cowboy, king or “Little Picasso.” Called “Wengenn in Wonderland,” the photo series was taken in 2010, but Liao saw a recent boost of interest as the adorable photographs went viral.

“As an artist, I always try to be creative,” Liao, an illustrator for children’s books, magazines and textbooks, told the Daily News. “I love to observe, think and imagine. I get my inspiration from everywhere. Also, the fairy tales and children’s stories from my childhood gave me a multitude of ideas to try out.”

Liao photographed her son on a flying carpet, interviewing President Obama, roping a cactus in the desert, and as a little prince, saving Rapunzel from her castle.

The 37-year-old mom of three, who lives with her family in Tracy, Calif., is creating a book and calendar of the photographs.

“Now, Wengenn knows that those pictures were taken when he was a small baby,” Liao said. “He likes them very much and thinks it was fun.”

During the project, Liao would dream up an idea, set up the scene and then wait for Wengenn to doze off.

“I tried not to disturb him once he fell asleep,” she said. “Even though Wengenn is a good sleeper, he still woke up from time to time.”

Liao only wishes she had thought of the idea sooner, so she could have the same fun mementos for her two older children, who are 6 and 11 years old.
