A person of interest is being questioned about a fire that left one man in critical condition in East Harlem on Friday morning.
The inferno began inside an eighth floor apartment in the Lexington Avenue high-rise, near East 109th Street, around 1 a.m., Friday, firefighters said. The fire was under control in 45 minutes but a 21-year-old victim was burned, suffered smoke inhalation and was cut trying to punch out windows, sources said.
The man was taken to Weill Cornell’s burn center in critical condition, officials said. Four other people suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
Investigators believe it was deliberately set.
