Police Investigate Alleged Sexual Assault In Central Park

Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault in Central Park.

Surveillance cameras show the woman walking into the park with her alleged attacker at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say they entered the park near 100th Street and Fifth Avenue and sat down on a bench.

The victim says that the man identified himself as “Omar.”

She told police that he turned violent once they were inside the park, dragging her into a grassy area and raping her.

NY1 talked to people in the area Sunday.

“It’s concerning to find out it happened, and I guess it will give me pause going forward,” said one person.

“I’m rather shocked,” said another. “I will continue to walk because that’s one of these things, you know, we’re in New York, things happen, and I think, I just hope they find who did it and I hope whomever was hurt does well.”

The woman managed to run to Mt. Sinai Hospital.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
