“12 Years A Slave” Wins Best Picture At Academy Awards



“Twelve Years A Slave,” based on the memoir of an upstate New York black man kidnapped and sold into slavery prior to the Civil War, won top honors at the Academy Awards Sunday night.


In addition to Best Picture, the film garnered Best Supporting Actress honors for Lupita Nyong’o and Best Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley.


Matthew McConaughey won Best Actor for his performance in “Dallas Buyer’s Club” while Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine.”


Alfonso Cuarón won Best Director for “Gravity,” which also won for Best Original Score, Best Film Editing and Best Cinematography, in addition to three technical awards.
