An NYPD detective was struck by an all-terrain vehicle after he and other officers tried to stop the vehicle in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon, sources said.
The cops had tried to pull over the four-wheeler and its wild driver around 3:30 p.m., sources said. But the rider sped off, hitting the officer in front of a bus stop on Pitkin Avenue and Autumn Avenue in Cypress Hills, sources and witnesses said.
“He was lying on his back and looked badly hurt,” said witness Naveed Fiad, who works at a BP gas station across the street, of the injured cop. “He was bleeding a lot from his head.”
One of Fiad’s customers ran to help the injured cop.
“A customer filled a big cup with hot water and took some tissues and went out to clean the blood off his face,” Fiad said.
The officer was taken to Jamaica Hospital and treated for a broken leg, cops said.
The suspect was tracked down a short time later and arrested, sources said.
