At least 30 dead after gunmen open fire inside Kenyan shopping mall

Gunmen threw grenades and opened fire inside Nairobi’s most upscale mall, killing about 10 people and wounding dozens.


Associated Press reporters said Saturday they saw about 10 dead bodies more than two hours after the attack began at the Westgate shopping center. Officials did not give an official death toll.

Nairobi police chief Benson Kibue said this was a terrorist attack and that there are likely no more than 10 terrorists involved, as gunfire continues to be exchanged.

Manish Turohit, 18, says he saw gunmen with AK-47s and vests with hand grenades on them inside the mall. He escaped after hiding in the parking garage for two hours.
