Police investigate after man plummets to his death


Police are investigating how a man fell to his death inside of a Crown Heights building, authorities said.


The victim, identified by family and friends as Thomas McKenzie, 68, toppled over a third floor railing and fell down into the lobby of the Eastern Parkway apartment building where he was staying at around 4 a.m. this morning, cops said.


Mckenzie apparently cracked his head open and was pronounced dead at the scene.


Police said the victim may have been intoxicated and do not suspect any foul play at this time.


“I was shocked when I heard,” said the dead man’s daughter Yasmine, 41. “My brother called me from St. Lucia to tell me. You don’t get a call at 5:57 a.m. from your brother in another country and expect that it is going to be something good.”


The man’s family said the St. Lucia native was in town visiting his daughter and was at a bar with a childhood friend before he died. Police believe the man then made his way home and lost his balance while walking back to his daughter’s apartment.


“I’m very sad. I can’t believe it,” Ryan Octave, 61, who was with McKenzie before he died. “We were cracking jokes just last night. He was like a brother to
