Just in time for the post-holiday rush back to the city, tolls from New Jersey are about to go up.
The toll for Port Authority bridges and tunnels is going up 75 cents for drivers with E-ZPass starting Sunday.
Off-peak tolls will now be $ 9, while tolls during peak hours will be $ 11.
The cash price of $ 13 remains the same.
Tolls are also going up for trucks, based on the number of axles. They’ll max out at $ 102 per trip.
AAA is suing the Port Authority over the hikes, saying that they’re unreasonable and unjust.
“It’s going to effect everything from clothes to cars as truckers pass along the extra expense of doing business,” said Robert Sinclair, a spokesperson with AAA.
“I think it’s ridiculous,” said one person. “Didn’t tolls just just go up not too long ago?”
“We pay enough already, I think,” said another. “There’s a lot of waste that goes on, I believe.”
“They’re pretty high now, man. I don’t know what else to tell you,” said a third. “It seems like they go up all the time.”
The hikes are the third in a series of five Port Authority toll increases that passed in 2011.
