One woman is dead and two others are in critical condition after a taxi collided with a box truck that then jumped an East Harlem curb, authorities said.
The truck was traveling down Park Avenue at around 1 p.m. when a taxi going west on 102nd Street slammed into the side of the vehicle, sending it up onto the sidewalk, killing a 65-year-old woman walking with her husband, FDNY officials and witnesses said.
“She looked bad,” said Reyna Alvarado, 43, who lives nearby. “She was with her husband. Her husband was ok. They were two old people walking slow, but she was three or four steps ahead of him.”
“She was bleeding and shaking,” she added. “She was conscious but she couldn’t talk. The husband was panicking and crying a lot.
Three other people were struck and taken to Mount Siani Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Two of the victims are in critical condition.
