Many New Yorkers who use Metro-North to head to work on Monday are facing significant detours because of Sunday’s train derailment.
Today is the first morning commute following yesterday’s deadly train accident and the first after the long holiday weekend.
Folks who normally ride a train along the Hudson line to get to New York City have options.
Limited train service will continue to take place on the Hudson line between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers. At Yonkers, commuters can take a shuttle bus to the Van Cortlandt Park, 242nd Street station of the No. 1 subway train to get to Manhattan.
Some drove to stations along the Harlem Metro-North line to take that train into Grand Central Terminal.
Commuters tell us the trains are more crowded than normal.
“We take the Hudson line so we drove over from Croton over to White Plains. So we came extra early just so we wouldn’t have a problem. It was fine. Coming in was no problem. It was a little crowded on the train, otherwise it was fine,” said one commuter.
“I’ve been doing this for almost 35 years, so you’re pretty much used to it, but when a tragedy like that happens you can’t help but feel a little nervous about things,” said another commuter.
Asked if they were hesitant to ride the train after the incident and many commuters said they were a little nervous but they had to get to work.
