Kelly: Security Measures To Be As Tight As Usual For New Year’s Eve In Times Square

One million people are expected in Times Square for New Year’s Eve, but the New York City Police Department expects it to be business as usual in terms of safety.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says that security measures will be as tight as they have been in previous years.

There will be no alcohol allowed, and all bags will be checked at entrances.

A typical counterterrorism plan includes helicopters in the air as well as officers on the ground.

“We don’t see any particular need to change the tactics and strategies that are in place for New Year’s Eve,” Kelly said. “There are no specific threats against New York City.”

Entry points into Times Square will only be available along Sixth and Eighth Avenues.
