Police Probe Second Deadly Shooting At Coney Island Houses

Police in Brooklyn are investigating after a man was found shot inside a stairwell at the Coney Island Houses Thursday night and comes just two days after a 17-year-old was fatally gunned down in the lobby of another building in the complex.

Investigators say they found the body of Shawn White, 25, around 9:30 p.m. in the fourth floor stairwell of a building located at 2925 West 27th Street.

He had been shot three times in the head, torso, and leg.

Community members say it’s time to put end to gun violence and are calling on whoever is responsible to come forward.

“If you’re watching this guy, then you know that we know. So, it’s best that you reach out and let us bring you in safely. So that there will be no more violence. The families don’t want anymore violence,” said Reverend Vernon Williams.

“Our grandmothers, our aunts, out uncles, the elderly, the children. They are going to start feeling like hostages in their own apartments and they’re not going to want to come out into the community,” said Keith Suber, a community activist.

On Wednesday, Yaquin English, 17, was found shot to death in the lobby of another Coney Island building.

A relative tells NY1 he was simply walking his dog when the gunfire erupted.

“Who feels safe around here? Who feels safe? Nobody. Anything can happen at any time,” said one Brooklyn resident.

“You just got to look over your shoulders that’s it. I’ve been working here for a long time and I’ve never had any problems,” said another Brooklyn resident.

Police have not linked the two shootings together and no arrests have been made.
