A familiar face will swear in the city’s next mayor.
Former President Bill Clinton will preside over Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio’s inauguration ceremony on New Year’s Day.
De Blasio has a long history with Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
He served as regional director at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Clinton administration, and he was also the campaign manager for Hillary Clinton’s Senate run in 2000.
President Clinton will swear in de Blasio on the steps of City Hall using a Bible once owned by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, another former president who is also a former governor of New York.
In a press release, Bill de Blasio said, “I was honored to serve in President Clinton’s Administration and on Secretary Clinton’s campaign for U.S. Senate, and I am honored again that they will both join our celebration for all of New York City…Wednesday’s ceremony will be an event for every New Yorker from all five boroughs, and Chirlane and I couldn’t be more excited to have President Clinton and Secretary Clinton stand with us.”
