Pennsylvania Prosecutor: Charges Will Be Filed In Baruch College Freshman’s Alleged Hazing Death

TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP, PA. – A Pennsylvania prosecutor says that charges will be filed in the hazing death of a Baruch College freshman.

Prosecutors are waiting until police finish their investigation before deciding what charges to file in the death of 19-year-old Michael Deng.

Authorities say that the Queens resident was one of four pledges who went to the Poconos with members of the Pi Delta Psi Asian-American fraternity.

Police say Deng was hurt while taking part in a ritual where he was blindfolded and forced to carry a heavy item on his back while others tried to tackle him.

Investigators say Deng was taken to a hospital in critical condition Sunday morning.

Doctors say he suffered major brain trauma and died on Monday.

In a statement, Baruch College said it had no knowledge of the trip or that the fraternity was even rushing a pledge class.

School officials said that they launched an internal investigation and are cooperating with law enforcement.
