Police Question Parents After Death Of 4-Month-Old

Police are questioning an officer with the Mexican Consulate and his wife about the death of their 4-month-old baby.

The Manhattan Medical Examiner’s office declared the death suspicious, although an autopsy proved inconclusive. Authorities say they are now awaiting a toxicology report.

Police say the baby, Eduardo Rocha Ovalle, was brought to NYU-Langone Hospital by his parents at around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The child died a half hour later.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said that a medical investigator was called in because the child had bruising on his body.

“Some history of domestic incidents at the residence, and there were no arrests were affected pursuant to that,” Kelly said.

The father is an employee of the Mexican Consulate.

The consulate confirmed that he has “staff credentials” there, but said that the case will be handled according to local laws.

Police inspected the family’s home on East 32nd Street.

No charges have been filed.
