According to published reports, the hackers behind the second largest credit card hack in U.S. history managed to steal encrypted personal identification numbers.
One major U.S. bank fears the encryption codes can be cracked, which would allow fraudulent withdrawals from customers’ accounts.
Target told the publication that no PIN data was compromised.
The retailer is already providing free credit monitoring services to New Yorkers who may be victims of the hack.
Shoppers have been advised to keep a close eye on their bank accounts and credit card statements.
