Police shot a woman in Brooklyn Saturday after officers say she lunged at them with a knife.
Police say they were called to a Crown Heights apartment building for a report of an emotionally disturbed person around 3 p.m. Saturday.
Family members led them to the room where the 35-year-old woman was, according to police.
Police say the woman came out of the room quickly, charging the officers with a knife.
One of the officers shot the woman in the torso, according to police.
Neighbors were shaken up by the incident.
“We live only right next to the building. I don’t understand why we didn’t hear any shots, and I’m hoping it’s nobody that I know,” said one neighbor. “I raised up in this neighborhood, so I’m just hoping that it’s not anybody that I know that anything bad happened to.”
The woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
One officer was treated for back injuries, and another was sent to the hospital for evaluation.
