De Blasio Administration Planning to Move $210M from Charter Schools to Pay for Preschool Facilities

In a move that is angering charter school advocates, the de Blasio administration is planning to move $ 210 million away from charter schools and use the money to pay for preschool facilities.

Schools Chancellor Carmen FariƱa said that the charter school money would help create 2,100 new full-day pre-kindergarten seats.

The expansion is part of a New York City Department of Education plan to increase its capital spending over the next four years by $ 800 million.

Some of the money would be used to pay for smaller classes.

The Department of Education is banking on getting additional funding from a state schools bond.
