Super Bowl Boulevard hasn’t been all fun and games for vendors who say they were forced to relocate from the area during the festivities.
More than 20 street vendors protested today after being forced out of the 13-block stretch during the festivities this week.
One protester said he moved from his spot on Broadway to 8th Avenue when told to relocate, but was pushed out of his new site as well.
“The same ticket three times. And he came and shut my generator off, shut my business off. You have to go home. And why I go home? I’m two blocks down from the Super Bowl,” said vendor Hakeem Elnagar.
“Some officer came to us and tell me you have five minute to close your car and take it to garage and don’t come back until Monday,” said vendor Waleed Salamal.
“They work very hard to find and maintain their spots and that’s because there are a myriad of confusing complex rules that vendors have to follow that tell them where they can be on the street,” said Archana Dittakavi, staff attorney at the Urban Justice Center.
In total, protesters say more than 100 vendors were removed.
