The informational website for the Department Of Justice’s Amber Alert program is offline due to the government shutdown — but the system itself is up and running.

WASHINGTON — The government’s website dealing with abducted children was reactivated Monday, ending an outage that had infuriated White House critics.

From Friday until 10 a.m. Monday, the Amber Alert website flashed a message saying it was not operating because of the government shutdown.

Justice Department officials said the Amber Alert program continued operating even though the website — which provides information to individual states about the program — did not.

The agency reactivated the site Monday “due to concern that the public would incorrectly believe the Amber Alert system was down,” said spokesman Brian Fallon.
