2 pedestrians killed in separate SUV accidents

A woman and a man were struck by SUVs in Brooklyn and Queens, respectively, on Monday night.



Two pedestrians were struck and killed by SUVs in separate Monday night accidents in Brooklyn and Queens, officials said.


Sheila Rivera, 50, of Brooklyn, was crossing Pennsylvania Ave. near Glenmore Ave. in East New York about 7:20 p.m. when she was hit by a 1998 Honda CR-V traveling northbound, police said.

Emergency responders rushed Rivera to Brookdale University Hospital, but she could not be saved.


In Jamaica, Queens, roughly 30 minutes later, a man in his 40s was struck as he crossed Jamaica Ave. at midblock, police said. He, too, was hit by a driver in a CR-V, cops said.

Emergency responders took the victim to Jamaica Hospital, where he died, cops said.


Both drivers remained at the scene and neither was expected to be charged, police said.
