Two masked robbers caused a night of terror at a Columbia University apartment building when they forced their way inside, held up two roommates and pistol-whipped one, police said.
The thieves knocked on the apartment door on West 111th Street near Broadway at around 11 p.m. Monday.
They pushed their way in when a resident answered.
A roommate walked in and found the two taking cash and a cellphone, cops said.
Following the unexpected interruption, one of the crooks started viciously beating the man who opened the door.
The home invaders then fled with their loot.
The beating victim was hit in the head with what appeared to be the blunt side of a firearm, officials said.
The victim was treated at St. Luke’s Hospital for minor injuries. No arrests have been made.
It was not clear if the victims were students. Officials at Columbia University did not immediately return calls for comment.
