A man accused of using a butcher knife to kill five of his relatives, including four children, was formally arraigned Monday on murder charges.
Ming Dong Chen, 25, is also charged with assaulting an officer and weapons possession.
He did not enter a plea, and is due back in court later this week.
Police say he killed his cousin’s wife and four children inside their Sunset Park home Saturday night.
The victims include 1-year-old William Zhuo and his 5-year-old brother Kevin.
Their sisters, 7-year-old Amy and 9-year-old Linda were also killed, along with their mother, 37-year-old Qiao Zhen Li.
Police say Chen made statements linking himself to the crime, as well as indicating a possible motive.
“He made a very short comment that since he’s been in this country everybody seems to be doing better than him, and that was a short comment. We’re not really sure what that means. But that’s the only thing we have now and we’re still looking into it,” said NYPD Chief of Department Philip Banks.
Chen, a Chinese immigrant, had been staying with the family for a short time.
