Renel Richardson, 31, was sentenced to two years in prison for stealing more than 3,000 iPads from Kennedy Airport.

An ex-cargo handler was sentenced to two years in prison for stealing a shipment of 3,240 iPads from Kennedy Airport.

Renel Richardson was employed by Cargo Airport Services on Nov. 12, 2012 when he served as a lookout while the tablets were unloaded from a cargo flight from China.

Richardson, 31, helped alleged co-defendant Ralph Ragin transport the stolen goods, valued at $ 1.4 million, to a Long Island warehouse the next day.

Only a few devices were recovered and the bulk of hot iPads were apparently re-sold, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Alixandra Smith.

Richardson — who faced up to 46 months in prison — was angling for probation but Federal Judge William Kuntz decided the suspect deserved hard time.

“Employeees at airports not only have the opportunity to steal goods, but they can compromise the safety of those who fly,” Kuntz said in explaining why a jail sentence was necessary.

Conspiracy charges are still pending against Ragin and third defendant Harry Mingo.
