Free rides were offered Tuesday on two of the subway lines hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy.
Straphangers who got on the A train between Howard Beach and the Rockaway Peninsula enjoyed the free pass through the turnstiles.
“I think it’s great to give us something little back. It’s nice,” said one straphanger.
“I guess it’s the most they can do right now for us to commemorate it. So I guess it’s good. It’s beneficial for certain people,” said another straphanger.
“I have an unlimited card so it doesn’t really make a difference to me,” noted a third rider.
Residents of the Rockaways lost subway service for seven months after Sandy destroyed tracks on the line south of Howard Beach.
The line was rebuilt and fortified against future flooding.
R train riders also paid nothing if they got on between Bay Ridge-95th Street and Court Street in Brooklyn.
The R train is still not running through the Montague Tunnel into Manhattan.
Crews will be repairing damage from Sandy until next fall.
Governor Andrew Cuomo said the free rides are a way to thank New Yorkers for their patience during repairs to the system.
The free rides ended at midnight Tuesday.
