A Queens nursing home resident was killed Wednesday morning after police say he was viciously beaten by his roommate.
Police say officers responded to an assault at the Beacon Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rockaway Park — formerly the Ocean Promenade — around 1:30 a.m.
The 71-year-old unidentified victim was found unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma to his head.
Police say the men got into a fight over an issue with their room.
That’s when Thomas Yarnavick allegedly attacked the victim with a wheelchair footrest.
Fellow patients were surprised by the attack.
“I kinda couldn’t believe it. I said ‘Are you sure you got the right place?’ I said, ‘Nothing happened here. There’s no excitement. There’s no nothing.’ So that whatever happened, they kept it low key so the patients wouldn’t know,” said one patient.
Yarnavick is charged with murder.
Nursing center officials have made no comment.
