Donation Effort Makes For Happier Halloween This Year

This Halloween will be a lot more fun for some of Sandy’s youngest victims.

The volunteer group Yellow Boots gave out hundreds of free Halloween costumes this weekend to children affected by the storm.

They collected donations of new and gently used costumes from all over the city and New Jersey.

Since Sandy struck so close to Halloween last year, many kids in affected communities didn’t get to trick or treat.

Organizers say they want to bring joy back to the holiday and help out financially strapped parents.

“We thought that it was very important that this year that the children had a very special Halloween,” said Stacey Sclafani of Yellow Boots.

“Sometimes it’s just the little things that can make a huge difference in someone’s life,” Melissa Malec of Yellow Boots.

Volunteers say they plan to donate any leftover costumes to other Sandy relief groups throughout the city.
