City education officials voted Tuesday for a dozen new schools to be created in 2014.
The Panel for Educational Policy’s meeting Tuesday night in Brooklyn was the second-to-last chance for city school officials to approve the creation of new schools before Mayor Bloomberg leaves office — and, as a result, the meeting was attended by dozens of protesters.

Many of the schools voted upon Tuesday will be charter schools housed in existing buildings alongside district schools.
At the final meeting, scheduled for Oct. 30, officials will vote on creation of 18 additional schools, starting in 2014.
