Family Seeks Volunteers In Search For Missing Queens Teen

The family of an autistic Queens teen missing for more than two weeks attended a rally Saturday in Harlem organized by the Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network.

Sharpton has personally pledged $ 5,000 in reward money for information leading to Avonte Oquendo’s safe return.

The 14-year-old vanished after leaving the Riverview School in Long Island City on October 4.

His father is calling on volunteers to join in the citywide search.

“We’re trying to get as many volunteers together because they want a search team, they want a large amount of numbers to show up. So that’s why we’re asking everyone to stop by the tent today so that way we can sign you up and get this team together, so they’re definitely on board,” said Daniel Oquendo.

Avonte’s father and volunteers have set up a search base on 51st Avenue and Center Boulevard. He says around a hundred people show up every day to help and local merchants have been dropping off food donations.

Police have also released a photo of the shirt Avonte was wearing at the time of his disappearance.

He was also wearing black jeans and black sneakers.

A more than $ 70,000 reward is being offered for the teen’s safe return.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
