Five Slashed Along Upper West Side Bike Path; Suspect In Custody

Police are investigating after five people were wounded by a scissor-wielding man on a Manhattan bike path this morning.

Investigators say it began just before 8 a.m. near 63rd Street and Riverside Boulevard on the Upper West Side.

Police say the five victims were either slashed or stabbed by the emotionally disturbed man.

A woman in her 30s who was stabbed by the man suffered the most serious injuries.

She is in critical condition but is expected to survive.

The other victims who were slashed include a 2-year-old boy and his 36-year-old father, and two women in their 30s.

All were taken to St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital.

Investigators say a bystander wrestled the suspect to the ground until officers arrived on scene.

He was taken into custody and is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Bellevue Hospital.

Charges are pending.
