Four Treated After Heating Oil Spill Coats Midtown Sidewalk

Several people were treated Tuesday morning after being exposed to an oil spill in the Garment District.

The New York City Fire Department says it happened just before 9 a.m. at Seventh Avenue and West 36th Street.

Officials say it involved about 50 gallons of oil used for boilers.

“I was walking right by it when it sort of popped. They were, I guess, putting oil into the tanks and when they removed it it just blasted out everywhere,” said one witness.

The FDNY says four people were decontaminated and taken to Bellevue Hospital for further review.
