NYPD: Man Shot On Upper West Side Street, Two Suspects Sought

Police are looking for two people in connection with the shooting of a man on the Upper West Side early Tuesday morning.

Investigators have put out surveillance video of the shooting, which happened at 88th Street and Amsterdam Avenue around 12:30 a.m.

Investigators say a man in his 40s was shot in the chest and torso.

The victim hailed a cab to a local hospital, where he is in serious condition.

Witnesses say the two suspects were seen ducking into a nearby public housing complex after the shooting.

Some people who spoke with NY1 in the area blame the slowdown of police stop-and-frisks for a recent rise in crime.

“Since the stop-and-frisk has ended, and people know it now that an officer can’t come up to you and question you or search you without a probably cause or anything more and more youths, or more of the younger generation teens are starting to arm themselves again and that shows an increase in the crime that’s going on,” said one neighborhood resident.

Police say there was an argument before the shooting but they have not put out a description of the shooter.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
