Off-duty cop kills pedestrian


An off-duty police officer rammed into a 51 year-old pedestrian on Staten Island, killing the man, cops said.


The victim was on Simonson Avenue and Richmond Terrace around 6:20 a.m. when the 29 year-old police officer slammed into him at the intersection, according to police. The victim was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.


The driver of the vehicle who initially fled the scene of the accident returned where he was taken into custody.


The 29 year-old police officer who works at the 121 precinct has been on the job for eight years.
