Off-duty NYPD cop kills pedestrian with SUV on SI

The victim was crossing the avenue when the officer hit him, police said.



An off-duty NYPD cop was taken into custody after he fatally struck a pedestrian in a Staten Island traffic accident Friday, police sources said.


The crash occurred on Richmond Terrace near Simonson Ave. in Mariner’s Harbor at 6:18 a.m.


The officer has been taken into custody, and police were continuing to investigate late Friday morning.

Police said the 29-year-old officer was driving east on Richmond Terrace when he hit the victim, a 51-year-old man who was crossing the avenue.


Neither the officer’s name nor the victim’s was immediately released.


Police were investigating late Friday morning.
