More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene of a fire in the Todt Hill section of Staten Island Monday.
The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. inside a residential building at the intersection of Gateway and Stonegate Drive.
Neighbors were concerned a resident may still be inside.
“Flames out of control. Then my maintenance guy kicked in the door of the man who we believe is still in there because his car is there, but we couldn’t get him out,” said one displaced resident.
There was no immediate word from firefighters on the scene whether someone may have still been inside.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
