Fire rips through Hunts Point Terminal Market

A fire burned through the Bronx’s Hunts Point Terminal Market Wednesday morning. At leaste one building was consumed.



A massive fire ripped through the Hunts Point Terminal Market in the Bronx Wednesday morning, consuming at least one building, officials said.


The flames erupted in an Edgewater Road building about 11:15 a.m. and was still raging at 12:30 p.m. More than 130 firefighters were on the scene, officials said.

No injuries were reported.


“It’s a heavy fire condition at this point,” a Fire Department spokesman said.


More than 50 merchants make up the Hunts Point Terminal Market, where revenues exceed $ 2 billion a year — more than any other produce terminal market in the world, according to its website.
