A 14-year-old girl is recovering after she was hit by a stray bullet Friday on her way home from school in Brooklyn.
Police put out surveillance video of a man running through a gas station.
They believe that he is the shooter.
The victim was walking home from Benjamin Banneker Academy in East New York Friday afternoon when she was shot.
Witnesses say the shooter was chasing someone else when the girl was shot above her right knee.
Police are also reviewing video from a New York City Police Department camera mounted above a light post at the intersection of Sutter and Euclid Avenues.
The girl’s mother, Charisse Tucker, said she’s relieved that the shooting wasn’t worse.
“My innocent child was coming home from school. I didn’t expect this, but I thank God that she’s OK,” Tucker said. “And I thank you all, the media, the police, the community, for coming out, for reaching out to me, ’cause I can’t stand to lose another child.”
Police believe that the man shown at left is between 18 to 20 years old, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds.
