An MTA worker earns a Hometown Hero nomination after stopping an attempted rape while she was on duty.

A subway conductor not only helped a 21-year-old woman escape a would-be rapist — the transit worker also tried to trap the psycho attacker like a rat.

The conductor didn’t get her man. He bolted from the Saratoga Ave. station in Brownsville, Brooklyn, before the police arrived. But the transit worker is still on the case.

“I’m hoping that one day I see him again and I can take his picture and alert the police,” the conductor said.

The 56-year-old conductor, who requested anonymity because the sex fiend hasn’t yet been identified or arrested, is being nominated for a Hometown Heroes in Transit award.

“She went above and beyond,” said Joe Costales, chairman of the conductor and tower division of Transport Workers Union Local 100. “She deserves to be recognized.”

The conductor’s No. 4 train was nearly empty when it pulled into Saratoga Ave. on May 15.

“It was three something in the morning,” she recalled. “I open my doors and look out the window and I see a young lady jump off, screaming at the top of her lungs, ‘He’s trying to rape me! He’s trying to rape me!’ I see this man running behind her.”

This was a 10-car train comprised of two segments; each half locked and sealed off from the other. As soon as the woman got back on board — on the front half of the train — the conductor shut the doors to that segment, sealing her inside.

“I wanted to make sure she was safe,” the conductor said.

With his prey getting away, the attacker also moved to get back on board, heading into the seventh car. The conductor then closed the rear doors.

“I was going to lock him in,” she said. “I was going to keep him in the back of my train so the police could get him.”

It didn’t pan out. The doors closed a second too soon.

“Now he’s running on the platform towards me,” the conductor said. “I’m looking at him and he’s looking at me, and he’s cursing me out,” she said. “I say, ‘You’re a rapist! You’re trying to rape this girl!’”

The motorman drove the train to another station.

“We just sat on the platform crying and holding each other,” the conductor said.
