The New York City Police Department is still looking for missing autistic teenager Avonte Oquendo, but Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says the department may make some changes to its approach.
Avonte Oquendo was last seen leaving the Riverview School in Long Island City on October 4.
But despite an intense police search, there have been no signs of the teen whose family says he cannot communicate verbally.
“We’re still devoting a lot of resources to the search. We’ll have to make adjustments as far as the deployment of the amount of resources that we have. We’ll do that some time during the week if we’re unsuccessful. Obviously we ask for the public’s help with any information at all,” Kelly said.
Over the weekend, volunteers hit the streets to pass out flyers and help Avonte’s family try to track him down.
The family says it will keep up a vigilant search regardless of what police do.
There is a $ 90,000 reward being offered for information leading to Avonte’s safe return.
He is described as being 5’3″ tall, and weighing around 125 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a gray striped shirt, black jeans and black sneakers.
