Lhota Sees Slight Gain In Latest Quinnipiac Poll

A new poll out from Quinnipiac University late Monday shows Democrat Bill de Blasio still firmly in command in the mayoral race, leading Republican Joe Lhota by 44 points.

The poll finds 68 percent of likely voters in favor of de Blasio, compared to 24 percent for Lhota.

Independence Party candidate Adolfo Carrion polls at two percent.

Five percent of voters were undecided.

While the latest numbers show a dip from de Blasio’s 50 point lead back on October 3, it’s still not good news for Lhota two weeks before Election Day.

De Blasio had no official campaign events Monday, but in his official capacity as public advocate he signed on to State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s campaign to combat smartphone theft.

The idea is to get manufacturers to create new technology that would disable any smartphone that has been stolen.

“If the Attorney General’s effort succeeds – and I’m honored to be his ally on this – if it succeeds, the phone will be worthless for resale, literally worthless. And it will cut out an entire category of crime that is now our fastest growing category,” De Blasio said.

“The Public Advocate today – who represents the City of New York; and I think has a good chance of continuing to represent the City of New York , is a very important addition to this coalition,” Schneiderman said.

Schneiderman says some progress has been made with Apple’s activation lock, though the coalition will be looking for an industry-wide solution.

Meanwhile, Lhota campaigned Monday at a Brooklyn senior center where he continued to hit de Blasio on crime, even suggesting that as a young staffer in the Dinkins administration he failed to pass on important information as the Crown Heights riots were unfolding.

“It’s one of many examples of bill’s inexperience. There’s nothing in his background that leads him to show that he will be an effective, an efficient, or overall good mayor,” Lhota said.

Tonight, Hillary Clinton will be hosting a fundraiser for de Blasio that’s expected to raise one million dollars for the Democrat.
