Male Jets fan questioned after allegedly punching female Pats fan

'He would never hit a lady,' said a friend of the man being questioned by New Jersey police, who added that she appeared to attack him.

‘He would never hit a lady,’ said a friend of the man being questioned by New Jersey police, who added that she appeared to attack him. Some on Twitter said the woman deserved the violence.

New Jersey cops were questioning a Long Island man Monday for allegedly slugging a female New England Patriots fan during a fracas after the Jets’ upset victory, a friend of the alleged Gang Green goon confirmed.

The suspect, a rabid Jets fan who works as a bartender, was picked up at his Suffolk County home, the friend said.

“He’s a nice guy,” said the man. “It looks like the girl went after him, not the other way around. He would never hit a lady.”

The man in question, a Jets fanatic who works as a bartender, wears a Wayne Chrebet jersey. The Daily News has decided not to disclose the fan's name because he has not been charged with a crime.

Video footage posted on Deadspin.com, however, showed a lout wearing a Wayne Chrebet jersey and camouflage pants clocking a slender blond woman in the face in a post-game skirmish at MetLife Stadium.

The Daily News is withholding the 38-year-old man’s name because he has not been charged with a crime.

A spokesman for the New Jersey State Police declined to comment on the case beyond saying they are “aware of the video and the incident is under investigation.”

Meanwhile, the puncher was getting socked by criticism on Twitter.

“Leave it to a Jets fan to punch a chick in the face after a game,” wrote one. “You guys can’t handle a win?”

But others were not as quick to condemn the Jets slugger, noting that it appeared the woman actually attacked him.

“1. I hate the jets 2. Guy is a drunk moron 3. Blond ran at hit and hit him first, she deserved the punch in the face!” another person weighed in.
