The train’s conductor slammed on the brakes when onlookers flagged him down, giving riders the chance to jump down and rescue the injured man.

A slew of selfless straphangers sprang into action Tuesday and saved an intoxicated homeless man who fell onto the tracks when his wheelchair rolled off the platform, officials said.

Stunned onlookers who were waiting for the southbound No. 4 train at Lexington Ave. and 59th St. just after 5 p.m. saw the man lose control of the wheelchair and slide off the crowded platform, MTA officials said.

Riders raced over and flagged the conductor, prompting him to slam on the brakes, officials said.

That’s when the riders jumped down and rescued the injured man, who was sprawled out on the tracks, officials said.

The man was rushed to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center and treated for cuts and bruises, authorities said.
