Reeducating the masses

City College has evicted its last vestiges of far-left delusion from a campus office that was a stain on the school’s honor. Long ago, in the throes of upset over a tuition hike, students occupied the room and named it after two former campus figures:

Guillermo Morales was chief bombmaker of a group that killed six in New York City. Assata Shakur, the “soul” of the Black Liberation Army, was the convicted murderer of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster.

In 2006, City University Chancellor Matt Goldstein ordered the room stripped of its designation as the Guillermo Morales/Assata Shakur Community and Student Center. There was a lawsuit. Herpes-like, the place stuck around.

Over the weekend, college officials boxed up the contents and painted over the red-fisted door and painted motto: THIS SPACE WAS WON BY STRUGGLE. Self-identified center director Alyssia Osorio asserted the university was “really scared of a lot of the organizing and community-building coming out of the building.”

Comically, she went on: “We provide so many services for the community — know-your-rights training, a farm share that provides healthy food, we’ve run a soup kitchen, we have provided baby-sitting services for people in the community.”

Baby-sitting. How scary!

What must really hurt is that the school has assigned the space to its Careers and Professional Development staff — the oppressors who help kids write resumes rather than nutty manifestos.
