A Washington Heights man is being hailed as a hero for his actions during a wild motorcycle chase on the Henry Hudson Parkway last weekend.
On Sunday, Sergio Consuegra, a father of 10, described what he saw and why he decided to step in and take action.
Consuegra said he was on his way to church last weekend when he came across a group of motorcycle riders beating the driver of an SUV in a road rage.
On Sunday, Consuegra described what he saw and why he decided to step in and take action.
Consuegra can be seen in the police surveillance photo above standing with his arms out. He said he was telling the bikers to stop beating SUV driver Alexian Lien at that point.
Consuegra said he also stopped the bikers from pulling Lien’s wife out of the car.
He said he felt “intense danger” as he told the bikers to stop hitting Lien.
“I say to them, ‘That’s it guys. Let it go, man. Let it go. That’s it. Just go, man. That’s it,’” Consuegra said. “So we stood at each other, looking at each other’s faces, and somehow, they stopped right in front of me.”
Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Reginald Chance, 37, and Robert Sims, 35, are both facing multiple charges, including gang assault.
Another biker, Christopher Cruz, has already been arraigned for reckless driving and unlawful imprisonment. He is free on bail.
Meanwhile, biker Edwin Mieses was run over by the Range Rover after several motorcyclists surrounded the vehicle on the Henry Hudson Parkway. He was seriously injured and may be paralyzed.
A New York City police officer has been placed on modified duty as internal affairs investigates if he was involved in any part of the altercation when he joined the group of bikers on that ride.
According to sources, several officers were part of the group.
Consuegra said he wishes he could’ve done more to help but is glad he stepped in to do something.
