An unidentified man sat down on the board over the third rail at the Utica Station in Brooklyn, causing delays on the C line Friday morning, authorities say.
An emotionally disturbed blind man sat on the subway tracks at a Brooklyn station Friday morning in an apparent suicide attempt, authorities said.
The 45-year-old sat on the protective board that covers the electrified third rail at the Utica Ave. station on the C line – and refused to budge, authorities said.
Police Emergency Service Unit officers were called in to remove the distraught man, who was then taken to Kings County Hospital.
Transit workers had to cut the power to the tracks in the area at about 9:30 a.m. Power wasn’t restored until approximately 10:30 a.m.
During the sit-off, C local trains ran express between Broadway Junction and Hoyt/Schermerhorn. The third rail carries 600 volts of electricity to propel trains.
Service on the No. 3 line, meanwhile, was disrupted in Brooklyn at about the same time after another man accidentally fell off the platform at the Crown Heights/Utica Ave. station, authorities said.
