One Biker Released, Other Arraigned In Violent SUV Chase

One of two bikers arrested in connection with a a violent dispute with an SUV driver over the weekend has been let go by police.

Motorcycle rider Allen Edwards was taken into custody yesterday, but released Wednesday morning free of charges pending further investigation.

This, as motorcycle rider Christopher Cruz, 28, was arraigned later in the morning in Manhattan criminal court on charges of reckless endangerment and unlawful imprisonment.

He did not offer a plea and was released on bail after being ordered to surrender his passport and his drivers license suspended.

He is due back in court later this week.

Police say Cruz and Edwards were driving recklessly on the Henry Hudson Parkway Sunday with 20 to 30 others bikers who surrounded an SUV at one point.

Driver Alexian Lien had his wife and child with him in the vehicle at the time.

While trying to drive away, motorcyclist Edwin “Jay” Mieses was run over.

The other bikers chased after Lien, who was then pulled out of his Range Rover and beaten.

Mieses is said to be in a coma, and may be paralyzed.

The family of the 32-year-old is demanding Lien be charged.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says there are a lot of issues to consider first.

“It depends on what the circumstances are, it depends on whether or not your vehicle is being attacked, whether or not you think you’re being attacked, whether or not your wife and child are in the car, you have to look at the totality of the circumstances, and that’s what we’re doing,” Kelly said.

Mieses’ family say they don’t condone the violence but believe Lien should face charges for his role in injuring their son.

Police are looking for others who may have been involved in the dispute.
