A man is fighting for his life after being struck by a speeding car while trying to cross a busy Harlem street, authorities and witnesses said.
The victim was crossing St. Nicholas Avenue near West 131st Street around 10 a.m. Sunday when a driver in a gray Honda Accord slammed into him, cops said.
The victim’s head smashed the windshield, and he was thrown approximately 60 feet.
Witnesses said the driver was going so fast that it took him almost 200 feet before he could come to a complete stop.
“[The driver] got out of the car and started running toward the man on the ground,” said the security guard at a nearby building. “The police were already there. They stopped him and told him to get back in his car.”
“After talking with him, they put him in the back of an ambulance,” the guard continued. “I guess he was in shock.”
The unidentified pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
