The New York City Police Department on Saturday confirmed more details about the moments before a 9-year-old boy fell to his death from a Bronx high-rise earlier this week.
Investigators say Sidy Fofana was found on top of scaffolding at the River Park Towers in Morris Heights around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say the boy had gone up to his uncle’s apartment on the top floor of the building so he could get money to buy food.
They say his uncle’s apartment on the 44th floor is located next to the unlocked roof.
“At this time the investigation is leading us to believe it was in fact, accidental. That, rather coming out a window, he may have actually fallen off the roof. And that investigation is still ongoing. We have no indication of a crime committed, appears to be a tragic accident,” said Police Commissioner William Bratton.
The building is undergoing renovations, but police have not said if it played a role in the child’s death.
