City officials on Saturday announced they have found space for three charter schools that were out of a home after having their co-location agreements reversed.
Three Success Academy schools will now be housed in former Catholic school buildings — one in Queens and two in Manhattan.
The schools have been at the center of a political battle over the future of charters in the city.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg agreed to co-locate them with public schools, but the de Blasio administration revisited the decision and halted the agreements.
Success Academy’s CEO, former City Councilwoman Eva Moskowitz, brought the fight to Albany where Governor Andrew Cuomo joined in at a pro-charter school rally.
In response to the new co-locations, Moskowitz thanked Mayor de Blasio, saying in part, “I’m heartened we’ve been able to put politics behind us and establish a positive working relationship. With valuable guidance and support by Governor Cuomo, we have advanced our shared goal of improving educational opportunities for the City’s many public school students in both charter and district schools.”
Parents had filed lawsuits against the city, but the resolution now settles those suits.
