Bin Laden’s Son-in-Law Receives Life Sentence

Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law was sentenced in Lower Manhattan this morning to life in prison after being convicted of serving as al-Qaeda’s spokesman after the September 11th attacks.

Sulaiman Abu Ghaith is the highest ranking al-Qaeda official to be tried on U.S. soil since the attacks.

The 48-year-old was convicted on conspiracy charges in March.

Prosecutors say he answered Osama bin Laden’s request to take part in videos aimed at recruiting new followers after the terror attacks.

In one video that was played for the jury, the Kuwaiti imam was heard saying “the storm of airplanes will not stop.”

Gaith took the stand in his own defense.

He denied being an al-Qaeda recruiter and claimed his message was a religious one encouraging Muslims to rise up against their oppressors.
